Good vinegrowers take the landscapes of their vineyard to the bottle and make us dream of those lands. This is what Javier Arizcuren wines are like, pure terroir from the Yerga mountain range in La Rioja Oriental. Wines are small in production, but big in character, as confirmed by the ratings of the wine experts, or by being present on the wine lists of more than 30 Michelin-starred restaurants. In his urban winery in Logroño he combine vocation and hard-work, creating a space for the making, aging and bottling of his wines that will not leave indifferent those who visit him.

Urban Cellar tour
The passion for the vinegrowing has continuity in a reinvented urban space that recovers a lost historical tradition of making wines in the center of Logroño. The visit begins by locating the setting of the vineyards, the Sierra de Yerga in Rioja Oriental, as well as a review of the past and present of the traditional wine culture. We will discover centenary plots and how these vineyards are worked through a sustainable and respectful viticulture.
We will then take a tour of the winemaking and aging facilities of the urban winery, focusing on the particularities of artisan work, aging in clay amphorae, foudres or barrels. We will also see how we carry out the manual work of labeling and sealing bottles that is typical of small production wines. We will finish with a tasting of four wines accompanied by Riojan loin and our own organic olive oil with bread from a wood-fired oven. An emotional visit to enjoy the culture of wine, with the charm of the small and artesanal.

Alma de Arizcuren Yerga vineyards
The best way to absorb the essence of a terroir is to visit it in person. This tour will delight those who seek to delve into the wine culture of an enclave as special as the Yerga mountain range. We will start with the breathtaking panoramic offered by the Castle of Quel, built in the 15th century. Next, we will ascend to the top of the Yerga mountain range in a tour through different vineyards exploring characteristics like soil, climate, grape varieties and growing techniques. We will finish the climbing at Barranco del Prado a pre phylloxera vineyard certified as a Viñedo Singular, in the top of the mountain at 780m, a living museum of the DOCa Rioja. There we’ll have a glass of wine enjoying a +200km distance long view. We will descent the mountain and continue the experience with a tasting of our wines in our cave/bodega in the Quel traditional winery neighbourhood, enjoying the wines with a deep understanding of the landscapes, and soils that we have just walked on. We will accompany the tasting with a traditional Rioja style lunch.
